Melissa Batalden Mendez has a college degree from St. Olaf College in Minnesota in family studies and a graduate degree in social work from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Through her own family experiences, her studies, her work, and her travels, Melissa has gained a deep appreciation for families and their experiences. She has a strong interest in all ritual and celebrations related to family and is especially interested in mother blessing ceremonies, parenthood ceremonies and retreats, baby welcomings and namings, and all types of adoption ceremonies. Currently, she is inspired to create a women's center, designed as a place to honor, nurture and celebrate women throughout all life stages. She is a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant, having graduated from the Celebrant Foundation & Institute with a diploma in Ceremonies for Families & Children in 2004, as well as the Chair of the Family & Children Celebrant Committee.
